Exports in South-Eastern Asia
In 2022, overseas shipments of passenger cars increased by X% to X units, rising for the fifth year in a row after three years of decline. In general, exports recorded measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, passenger car exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Thailand was the largest exporter of passenger cars in South-Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports resulting at X units, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X units), achieving a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Malaysia (X units) and Singapore (X units) - together made up X% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to passenger car exports from Thailand stood at X%. At the same time, Indonesia (X%), Singapore (X%) and Malaysia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($X per unit), while Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, purchases abroad of passenger cars increased by X% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. In general, imports continue to indicate a modest increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, passenger car imports surged to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The Philippines represented the key importing country with an import of around X units, which resulted at X% of total imports. Thailand (X units) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Vietnam (X%), Malaysia (X%), Indonesia (X%) and Cambodia (X%). Singapore (X units) held a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to passenger car imports into the Philippines stood at X%. At the same time, Vietnam (X%), Cambodia (X%) and Thailand (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($X per unit), while the Philippines ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
