In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Southeast Asian mica market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. In general, consumption continues to indicate buoyant growth. Indonesia (X tonnes) remains the largest mica producing country in South-Eastern Asia, accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, mica production in Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Myanmar (X tonnes), fivefold. Singapore (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume in Indonesia totaled +X%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Myanmar (-X% per year) and Singapore (-X% per year).

Mica Exports

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of mica, when their volume increased by X% to X tonnes. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mica exports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then fell notably in the following year.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, purchases abroad of mica increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. Overall, imports recorded a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mica imports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a slight decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced notably in the following year.
