The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, horsehair exports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Malaysia dominates exports structure, resulting at X kg, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X kg), generating a X% share of total exports. Thailand (X kg) held a minor share of total exports.

Malaysia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the horsehair exports, with a CAGR of +X% from 2012 to 2021. Indonesia (-X%) and Thailand (-X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In 2021, overseas purchases of horsehair were finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, horsehair imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Vietnam (X tons) represented the major importer of horsehair, constituting X% of total imports. Indonesia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Myanmar (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. The following importers - the Philippines (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.
