The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 24%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of fresh chicken cut production was Indonesia (X tons), comprising approx. 42% of total volume. Moreover, fresh chicken cut production in Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Vietnam (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (X tons), with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Indonesia totaled +1.9%. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Vietnam (+2.4% per year) and Thailand (+3.8% per year).

Fresh Chicken Cut Exports

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

Fresh chicken cut exports dropped rapidly to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -21.2% on the previous year. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 104% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fresh chicken cut exports declined to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 216%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Thailand dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 88% of total exports in 2022. Malaysia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Singapore (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 11% share of total exports.

Thailand experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken. At the same time, Singapore (+68.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Singapore emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +68.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Malaysia (-9.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Singapore (+5.3 p.p.) and Thailand (+2.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Malaysia (-8.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Thailand ($X) remains the largest fresh chicken cut supplier in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 92% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Malaysia ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Thailand stood at +4.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Malaysia (-12.5% per year) and Singapore (+36.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price enjoyed measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the export price increased by 95%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.9%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of fresh or chilled cuts of chicken imported in South-Eastern Asia reduced dramatically to X tons, with a decrease of -17.3% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fresh chicken cut imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 188%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Vietnam represented the key importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 44% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Malaysia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons), together mixing up a 54% share of total imports. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Singapore (with a CAGR of +213.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest fresh chicken cut importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Singapore ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined 93% share of total imports.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +228.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
