In value terms, powdered, evaporated and condensed milk production contracted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 12%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

For the third consecutive year, South-Eastern Asia recorded decline in overseas shipments of powdered, evaporated and condensed milk, which decreased by -14.7% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 9.2%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, powdered, evaporated and condensed milk exports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Malaysia represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached 55% of total exports. Singapore (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons) and Thailand (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 38% share of total exports. The following exporters - the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) - together made up 6.8% of total exports.

Exports from Malaysia increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Vietnam (+20.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Vietnam emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +20.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Thailand (-3.2%), Indonesia (-7.4%), Singapore (-7.6%) and the Philippines (-10.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Malaysia and Vietnam increased by +13 and +9.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Singapore ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 82% share of total exports.

Among the main exporting countries, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +30.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 4.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 12%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+8.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2021, supplies from abroad of powdered, evaporated and condensed milk was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 12%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, powdered, evaporated and condensed milk imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.4% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Indonesia (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) represented roughly 97% of total imports in 2021.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +4.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest powdered, evaporated and condensed milk importing markets in South-Eastern Asia were Indonesia ($X), Malaysia ($X) and the Philippines ($X), with a combined 59% share of total imports.

Indonesia, with a CAGR of +3.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the import price increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Thailand ($X per ton) and Malaysia ($X per ton), while Vietnam ($X per ton) and the Philippines ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+1.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
