Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2023, approx. X tons of cotton sewing thread were exported in South-Eastern Asia; with a decrease of X% on 2022 figures. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton sewing thread exports reduced sharply to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2023, purchases abroad of cotton sewing thread was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
