Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2023, approx. X tons of cotton sewing thread were exported in South-Eastern Asia; with a decrease of X% on 2022 figures. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cotton sewing thread exports reduced sharply to $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In 2023, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, falling by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while Cambodia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2023, purchases abroad of cotton sewing thread was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a five-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
