Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, shipments abroad of concentrated pineapple juice increased by 9.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice exports stood at $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +61.4% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

In 2022, the Philippines (X tons) was the major exporter of concentrated pineapple juice, constituting 71% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Thailand (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons), together generating a 28% share of total exports.

The Philippines was also the fastest-growing in terms of the concentrated pineapple juice exports, with a CAGR of +6.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Indonesia (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Thailand (-7.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Philippines (+26 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Thailand saw its share reduced by -27.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concentrated pineapple juice supplying countries in South-Eastern Asia were the Philippines ($X), Thailand ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 99% share of total exports.

The Philippines, with a CAGR of +9.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in South-Eastern Asia stood at $X per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 42%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the Philippines ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of concentrated pineapple juice imported in South-Eastern Asia dropped to X tons, reducing by -9.4% compared with 2021. In general, imports, however, posted mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 73% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice imports contracted modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 72%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Singapore represented the key importing country with an import of around X tons, which reached 59% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), the Philippines (X tons), Malaysia (X tons) and Brunei Darussalam (X tons), together committing a 33% share of total imports. Myanmar (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Imports into Singapore increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Myanmar (+16.9%), Vietnam (+9.7%), the Philippines (+6.3%) and Brunei Darussalam (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of +16.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Cambodia (-3.2%) and Malaysia (-4.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar increased by +16, +7.7, +3.4 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported concentrated pineapple juice in South-Eastern Asia, comprising 52% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Philippines ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 14% share.

In Singapore, concentrated pineapple juice imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Philippines (+10.4% per year) and Vietnam (+15.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, growing by 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 16% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per ton), while Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
