Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2023, shipments abroad of biodiesel increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, biodiesel exports stood at $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Malaysia represented the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which reached X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Indonesia (X tons), mixing up a X% share of total exports. Thailand (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2023, average annual rates of growth with regard to biodiesel exports from Malaysia stood at X%. At the same time, Thailand (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Thailand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in South-Eastern Asia, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Indonesia (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2023, the share of Malaysia and Thailand increased by X and X percentage points, respectively.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, biodiesel imports skyrocketed to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Malaysia was the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at X% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Singapore (X tons), making up a X% share of total imports.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) and Malaysia ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2023.

Singapore, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review.
