For the ninth year in a row, the Southeast Asian berry market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a remarkable increase. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Berry Production in South-Eastern Asia

In value terms, berry production expanded remarkably to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2015 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The country with the largest volume of berry production was the Philippines (X tons), accounting for X% of total volume. Moreover, berry production in the Philippines exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Myanmar (X tons), threefold. Lao People's Democratic Republic (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a X% share.

In the Philippines, berry production expanded at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Myanmar (X% per year) and Lao People's Democratic Republic (X% per year).

The average berry yield shrank slightly to X tons per ha in 2022, almost unchanged from the previous year. Over the period under review, the yield, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the yield increased by X%. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the berry yield remained at a somewhat lower figure. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2022, approx. X ha of berries were harvested in South-Eastern Asia; surging by X% against 2021. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of X% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X%. As a result, the harvested area attained the peak level of X ha. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the berry harvested area failed to regain momentum.

Exports in South-Eastern Asia

In 2022, the amount of berries exported in South-Eastern Asia skyrocketed to X tons, surging by X% on 2021 figures. Overall, exports enjoyed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, the export price in South-Eastern Asia amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by X% against the previous year. Export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, berry export price decreased by X% against 2017 indices. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, berry imports reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Vietnam (X tons) and Singapore (X tons) were the main importers of berries in 2022, amounting to near X% and X% of total imports, respectively. Thailand (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Malaysia (X%). The following importers - Indonesia (X tons) and Cambodia (X tons) - each finished at a X% share of total imports.
