Exports from South Africa

In 2022, the amount of whisky exported from South Africa contracted to X litres, with a decrease of X% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X litres. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, whisky exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Namibia (X litres), Zimbabwe (X litres) and Swaziland (X litres) were the main destinations of whisky exports from South Africa, with a combined X% share of total exports. Lesotho, Botswana, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Zambia and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lesotho (with a CAGR of X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Namibia ($X) remains the key foreign market for whisky exports from South Africa, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Botswana ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Swaziland, with an X% share.

In 2022, imports of whisky into South Africa soared to X litres, growing by X% against 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X litres in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X litres), with a X% share.
