In 2022, shipments abroad of video game consoles increased by 36% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports posted a modest increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 53%. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, video game console exports contracted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Namibia (X units), Botswana (X units) and Angola (X units) were the main destinations of video game console exports from South Africa, with a combined 73% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Angola (with a CAGR of +39.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Namibia ($X), Botswana ($X) and Swaziland ($X) were the largest markets for video game console exported from South Africa worldwide, with a combined 78% share of total exports.
