Loudspeaker Market Size in South Africa

The South African loudspeaker market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption decreased by -26.2% against 2018 indices. For the third year in a row, South Africa recorded growth in shipments abroad of single loudspeakers (in enclosure), which increased by 52% to X units in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 75%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, loudspeaker exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -9.4% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Namibia (X units), Botswana (X units) and Swaziland (X units) were the main destinations of loudspeaker exports from South Africa, with a combined 56% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Cameroon, Zambia, Lesotho and Zimbabwe, which together accounted for a further 26%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Cameroon (with a CAGR of +328.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Namibia ($X), Botswana ($X) and Swaziland ($X) constituted the largest markets for loudspeaker exported from South Africa worldwide, with a combined 51% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Cameroon and Zambia, which together accounted for a further 19%.

Among the main countries of destination, Cameroon, with a CAGR of +346.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average loudspeaker export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, reducing by -22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 150% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Cameroon ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cameroon (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into South Africa

In 2021, purchases abroad of single loudspeakers (in enclosure) decreased by -4.3% to X units, falling for the third year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 87%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, loudspeaker imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -18.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of loudspeaker to South Africa, with a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, loudspeaker imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X units), more than tenfold. The United States (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled +5.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Poland (+125.7% per year) and the United States (+8.1% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of single loudspeakers (in enclosure) to South Africa, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 2.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Indonesia, with a 1.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +6.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+2.2% per year) and Indonesia (-6.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average loudspeaker import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, growing by 31% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, loudspeaker import price increased by +38.8% against 2019 indices. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per unit), while the price for Germany ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
