Non-Alloy Steel H-Sections Market Size in South Africa

After four years of growth, the South African non-alloy steel h-sections market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2011 to 2020, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections exports dropped notably to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Zambia (X tonnes), Zimbabwe (X tonnes) and Botswana (X tonnes) were the main destinations of non-alloy steel h-sections exports from South Africa, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Zimbabwe, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for non-alloy steel h-sections exported from South Africa were Zambia ($X), Zimbabwe ($X) and Botswana ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Zimbabwe recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average non-alloy steel h-sections export price amounted to $X per tonne, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Zimbabwe ($X per tonne) and Namibia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($X per tonne) and Mozambique ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malawi, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into South Africa

In 2020, supplies from abroad of h-sections of of non-alloy steel decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a perceptible curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-alloy steel h-sections imports fell rapidly to $X in 2020. In general, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

The UK (X tonnes), South Korea (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of non-alloy steel h-sections imports to South Africa, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the UK, while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest non-alloy steel h-sections suppliers to South Africa were the UK ($X), South Korea ($X) and Germany ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, the UK saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average non-alloy steel h-sections import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from Luxembourg ($X per tonne) and Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for South Korea ($X per tonne) and the UK ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
