Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Democratic Republic of the Congo ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Namibia (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into South Africa

In 2021, the amount of truck cranes imported into South Africa shrank sharply to X units, with a decrease of -65.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a precipitous slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 66%. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, truck crane imports dropped sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a dramatic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X units), China (X units) and Zambia (X units) were the main suppliers of truck crane imports to South Africa, together comprising 93% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Zambia (with a CAGR of +14.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
