Exports from South Africa

In 2023, overseas shipments of boxes, pouches, wallets and writing compendiums of paper increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. In value terms, paper articles exports shrank modestly to $X in 2023. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X%. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Lesotho (X tons), Namibia (X tons) and Zambia (X tons) were the main destinations of paper articles exports from South Africa, together comprising X% of total exports. Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania and Botswana lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.
