Croatia (X litres), Bosnia and Herzegovina (X litres) and Austria (X litres) were the main destinations of ethanol exports from Slovenia, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Slovenia

In 2022, purchases abroad of ethyl alcohol decreased by X% to X litres, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ethanol imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a slight increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Hungary (X litres) constituted the largest ethanol supplier to Slovenia, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, ethanol imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bulgaria (X litres), more than tenfold. Italy (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Hungary totaled X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (X% per year) and Italy (X% per year).

In value terms, Hungary ($X) constituted the largest supplier of ethyl alcohol to Slovenia, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Hungary totaled X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bulgaria (X% per year) and Italy (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average ethanol import price amounted to $X per litre, jumping by X% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, ethanol import price increased by X% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Croatia ($X per litre) and Italy ($X per litre), while the price for Hungary ($X per litre) and Bulgaria ($X per litre) were amongst the lowest.
