Malt Market Size in Slovakia

In 2020, the Slovak malt market increased by X% to $X, rising for the third year in a row after four years of decline. For the third year in a row, Slovakia recorded growth in overseas shipments of malt, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, malt exports amounted to $X in 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland (X tonnes) was the main destination for malt exports from Slovakia, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, malt exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hungary (X tonnes), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Slovenia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Poland totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+X% per year) and Slovenia (+X% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for malt exports from Slovakia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Hungary ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hungary (+X% per year) and Slovenia (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average malt export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, flattening at the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Austria ($X per tonne) and Poland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per tonne) and Croatia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Malt Imports

Imports into Slovakia

In 2020, supplies from abroad of malt increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, malt imports rose slightly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, the Czech Republic (X tonnes) constituted the largest malt supplier to Slovakia, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, malt imports from the Czech Republic exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tonnes), fourfold. Belgium (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from the Czech Republic amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and Belgium (+X% per year).

Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of X% year-to-year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the price for Ukraine ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
