In 2021, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in the Singaporean laptop and tablet computer market, when its value decreased by -11.8% to $X. Overall, consumption showed a perceptible decrease. Laptop and tablet computer consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild reduction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +80.6% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Malaysia (X units), Indonesia (X units) and the Philippines (X units) were the main destinations of laptop and tablet computer exports from Singapore, with a combined 46% share of total exports. Vietnam, Thailand, India, Hong Kong SAR, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia, the United States, Japan and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +25.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Malaysia ($X), Indonesia ($X) and the Philippines ($X) constituted the largest markets for laptop and tablet computer exported from Singapore worldwide, with a combined 46% share of total exports. Vietnam, Thailand, India, Hong Kong SAR, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Australia, the United States, Japan and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 47%.
Japan, with a CAGR of +28.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average laptop and tablet computer export price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -7.2% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Cambodia ($X per unit) and India ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per unit) and the United States ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of laptops and palm-top computers increased by 27% to X units, rising for the second year in a row after four years of decline. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X units) was the main laptop and tablet computer supplier to Singapore, with a 93% share of total imports. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates (X units), with a 2.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+8.4% per year) and Malaysia (-24.0% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of laptops and palm-top computers to Singapore, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 1.2% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +1.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+22.5% per year) and Malaysia (-21.0% per year).

In 2021, the average laptop and tablet computer import price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 7.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
