Hop Market Size in Singapore

The Singaporean hop market fell significantly to $X in 2020, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Hop consumption peaked at $X in 2019, and then reduced markedly in the following year.

In 2020, overseas shipments of hops decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fifth year in a row after seven years of growth. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, hop exports dropped markedly to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2019, and then fell notably in the following year.

Indonesia (X kg), New Zealand (X kg) and Malaysia (X kg) were the main destinations of hop exports from Singapore.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Indonesia, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for hop exported from Singapore were Indonesia ($X), New Zealand ($X) and Malaysia ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

Indonesia recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of hops decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after five years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hop imports stood at $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. from 2018 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Australia (X tonnes), the U.S. (X kg) and Slovenia (X kg) were the main suppliers of hop imports to Singapore, together comprising X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Egypt and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Hong Kong SAR, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Slovenia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hop to Singapore, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the U.S., with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Slovenia totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average hop import price amounted to $X per tonne, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($X per tonne), while the price for Australia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
