The Singaporean dolomite market expanded significantly to $X in 2021, surging by 8.2% against the previous year. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Dolomite consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Dolomite Exports

Exports from Singapore

After two years of decline, overseas shipments of chalk and dolomite increased by 376% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decline. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a deep downturn. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tons), China (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of dolomite exports from Singapore, together accounting for 99% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +17.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for dolomite exported from Singapore were Malaysia ($X), China ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together accounting for 93% of total exports.

China, with a CAGR of -0.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In 2021, the average dolomite export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -36.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 190%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+8.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

For the third consecutive year, Singapore recorded decline in purchases abroad of chalk and dolomite, which decreased by -78.8% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, dolomite imports fell sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 9.8% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, India (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of dolomite to Singapore, with a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, dolomite imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (X tons), with a 20% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India amounted to -16.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-5.9% per year) and the United States (-6.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest dolomite suppliers to Singapore were Malaysia ($X), Japan ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 68% share of total imports.

The UK, with a CAGR of +77.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average dolomite import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 245% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a prominent increase. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+40.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
