In 2021, Sweden (X tons) was the major exporter of molasses (excluding cane molasses), committing 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Denmark (X tons), making up a 30% share of total exports.
Sweden was also the fastest-growing in terms of the molasses (excluding cane molasses) exports, with a CAGR of +28.1% from 2012 to 2021. Denmark (-7.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Sweden (+59 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Denmark (-58.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest non-cane molasses supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 68% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 32% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Sweden totaled +24.8%.

In 2021, the export price in Scandinavia amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, non-cane molasses imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports posted resilient growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Denmark (X tons) was the key importer of molasses (excluding cane molasses), mixing up 62% of total imports. Norway (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with an 18% share, followed by Finland (11%) and Sweden (8.9%).
Imports into Denmark increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Norway (+32.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Norway emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Scandinavia, with a CAGR of +32.3% from 2012-2021. Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In Denmark, non-cane molasses imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Norway (+33.9% per year) and Finland (-4.1% per year).
