The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Sweden represented the largest exporter of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted) in Scandinavia, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was approx. 60% of total exports in 2021. Denmark (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Finland (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 38% share of total exports. Norway (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Sweden experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted). At the same time, Norway (+9.5%), Denmark (+6.6%) and Finland (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 12% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 15% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of coffee (decaffeinated or roasted) increased by 6.9% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 6.9% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, decaffeinated or roasted coffee imports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Denmark represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which recorded 41% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Finland (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Norway (X tons), together creating a 55% share of total imports. Iceland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Iceland (with a CAGR of +6.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest decaffeinated or roasted coffee importing markets in Scandinavia were Denmark ($X), Sweden ($X) and Finland ($X), with a combined 77% share of total imports. Norway and Iceland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
