The volume of export peaked at X litres in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, bottled water exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 47% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Denmark (X litres) and Norway (X litres) dominates exports structure, together constituting 87% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Sweden (X litres), mixing up a 9.5% share of total exports. Finland (X litres) took a relatively small share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Denmark (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Norway ($X) remains the largest bottled water supplier in Scandinavia, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with an 8.9% share.
In Norway, bottled water exports plunged by an average annual rate of -5.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (-0.9% per year) and Sweden (-3.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Scandinavia stood at $X per litre in 2021, growing by 39% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a deep reduction. The level of export peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per litre), while Denmark ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+3.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, overseas purchases of bottled waters decreased by -18.3% to X litres, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 47%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X litres. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, bottled water imports fell slightly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Sweden represented the main importing country with an import of about X litres, which accounted for 51% of total imports. Denmark (X litres) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 27% share, followed by Finland (16%) and Norway (5%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Denmark (with a CAGR of +3.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.
In value terms, Sweden ($X), Denmark ($X) and Finland ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 91% share of total imports.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Scandinavia stood at $X per litre in 2021, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 43%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
