Polyethylene Market Size in Saudi Arabia

For the third year in a row, the Saudi polyethylene market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Polyethylene consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, the amount of polyethylene with a specific gravity of less than X, in primary forms exported from Saudi Arabia shrank remarkably to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% compared with 2019 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, polyethylene exports shrank notably to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X tonnes) was the main destination for polyethylene exports from Saudi Arabia, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, polyethylene exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (X tonnes), twofold. Malaysia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore stood at -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for polyethylene exports from Saudi Arabia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Singapore totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-X% per year) and Malaysia (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average polyethylene export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Syrian Arab Republic ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
