In 2018, the average polyethylene export price amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, the polyethylene export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Syrian Arab Republic ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, polyethylene imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, polyethylene imports attained their peak figure at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Qatar (X tonnes), the United Arab Emirates (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of polyethylene imports to Saudi Arabia, together accounting for X% of total imports. Lebanon, Singapore, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Singapore (+X% per year), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
