Domestic Appliances Market Size in Saudi Arabia

In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in the Saudi domestic appliances market, when its value decreased by -1.2% to $X. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Domestic Appliances Production in Saudi Arabia

In value terms, domestic appliances production contracted slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, the total production indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +1.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 28% against the previous year. Domestic appliances production peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports from Saudi Arabia

In 2021, shipments abroad of domestic appliances decreased by -5.1% to X units, falling for the third consecutive year after four years of growth. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 6.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kuwait (X units), the United Arab Emirates (X units) and Turkey (X units) were the main destinations of domestic appliances exports from Saudi Arabia, together comprising 54% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Turkey (with a CAGR of +57.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X), Kuwait ($X) and Bahrain ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for domestic appliances exported from Saudi Arabia worldwide, with a combined 59% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Jordan, Yemen, Sudan, Ethiopia, China, Oman, Egypt and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +31.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average domestic appliances export price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 6.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 130%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Pakistan (+43.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Domestic Appliances Imports

Imports into Saudi Arabia

After two years of growth, purchases abroad of domestic appliances decreased by -4.7% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a mild increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports rose significantly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 28%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of domestic appliances to Saudi Arabia, accounting for a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, domestic appliances imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Egypt (X units), with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +7.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+6.9% per year) and Egypt (+0.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of domestic appliances to Saudi Arabia, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Italy ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 6.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China stood at +11.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+7.9% per year) and Thailand (-8.1% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average domestic appliances import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 35%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for Egypt ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
