South Africa prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 83% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Mozambique (X tons), creating a 6.4% share of total exports. The following exporters - Democratic Republic of the Congo (X tons), Seychelles (X tons) and Namibia (X tons) - together made up 9.2% of total exports.

Exports from South Africa increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Seychelles (+137.1%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (+92.4%) and Namibia (+12.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Seychelles emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in SADC, with a CAGR of +137.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Mozambique (-9.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of South Africa, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Seychelles increased by +19, +4 and +2.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest processed petroleum oils and distillates supplier in SADC, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Mozambique ($X), with a 6.6% share of total exports. It was followed by Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a 5.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in South Africa amounted to -6.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mozambique (-19.3% per year) and Democratic Republic of the Congo (+102.2% per year).

The export price in SADC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the export price increased by 13%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 67%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, processed petroleum oils and distillates imports rose markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
