Avocado Market Size in Rwanda

The revenue of the avocado market in Rwanda amounted to $X in 2018, dropping by -X% against the previous year. In general, the total market indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. Rwanda avocado production peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2018, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2018, the average yield of avocados in Rwanda stood at X tonne per ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Overall, the avocado yield continues to indicate a slight shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The global avocado yield peaked at X tonne per ha in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2018, yield failed to regain its momentum. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.

In 2018, the total area harvested in terms of avocados production in Rwanda amounted to X ha, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the total harvested area indicated buoyant growth from 2007 to 2018: its figure increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, avocado harvested area increased by +X% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when harvested area increased by X% against the previous year. The global avocado harvested area peaked in 2018 and is likely to continue its growth in the near future.

Exports from Rwanda

In 2018, the exports of avocados from Rwanda totaled X tonnes, going up by X% against the previous year. In general, avocado exports continue to indicate an outstanding increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, avocado exports reached their peak figure in 2018 and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, avocado exports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, avocado exports continue to indicate outstanding growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, avocado exports attained their maximum in 2018 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Mexico was the major exporting country with an export of about X tonnes, which reached X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Peru (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Chile (X tonnes), together creating a X% share of total exports. Spain (X tonnes), South Africa (X tonnes), Kenya (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2007 to 2018, average annual rates of growth with regard to avocado exports from Mexico stood at +X%. At the same time, Peru (+X%), the U.S. (+X%), the Netherlands (+X%), Kenya (+X%), Spain (+X%), South Africa (+X%) and Chile (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Peru emerged as the fastest-growing exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018. Mexico (+X p.p.), Peru (+X p.p.), the Netherlands (+X p.p.), Chile (+X p.p.), the U.S. (+X p.p.), Spain (+X p.p.), Kenya (+X p.p.) and South Africa (+X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mexico ($X) remains the largest avocado supplier from Rwanda, comprising X% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($X), with a X% share of global exports. It was followed by Peru, with a X% share.

In Mexico, avocado exports increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007-2018. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: the Netherlands (+X% per year) and Peru (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the avocado export price in Rwanda amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the avocado export price continues to indicate a temperate shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when the export price increased by X% year-to-year. In that year, the export prices for avocados reached their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2011 to 2018, the growth in terms of the export prices for avocados failed to regain its momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per tonne), while Kenya ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Chile, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Avocado Imports

In 2018, the U.S. (X tonnes) represented the largest importer of avocados, achieving X% of total imports. The Netherlands (X tonnes) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by France (X%), Canada (X%), the UK (X%) and Spain (X%). Germany (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and China (X tonnes) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into the U.S. increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018. At the same time, China (+X%), Canada (+X%), the Netherlands (+X%), Spain (+X%), Germany (+X%), Japan (+X%), the UK (+X%) and France (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, China emerged as the fastest-growing importer in the world, with a CAGR of +X% from 2007-2018.
