Tufted Carpet Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian tufted carpet market reduced to $X in 2022, declining by -5.6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption continues to indicate a pronounced decline. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of tufted carpets and other tufted textile floor coverings, when their volume decreased by -14% to X square meters. In general, exports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 58% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, tufted carpet exports plummeted to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Kazakhstan (X square meters), Tajikistan (X square meters) and Belarus (X square meters) were the main destinations of tufted carpet exports from Russia, together comprising 67% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +107.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Tajikistan ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for tufted carpet exported from Russia worldwide, together accounting for 69% of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Tajikistan, with a CAGR of +127.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average tufted carpet export price amounted to $X per square meter, falling by -1.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tajikistan ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Armenia (+21.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

Tufted carpet imports into Russia reduced modestly to X square meters in 2022, declining by -2.7% compared with the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.4% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tufted carpet imports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 50%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Belarus (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of tufted carpet to Russia, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, tufted carpet imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X square meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Belgium (X square meters), with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Belarus totaled +18.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+10.0% per year) and Belgium (-7.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest tufted carpet suppliers to Russia were China ($X), Belarus ($X) and Belgium ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Turkey, India, Uzbekistan, Serbia and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +82.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average tufted carpet import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, shrinking by -4.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 10% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per square meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per square meter), while the price for Belarus ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
