Vegetable Exports

Exports from the Russian Federation

In 2022, shipments abroad of vegetables decreased by X% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, exports, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable exports contracted notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Azerbaijan (X tons) was the main destination for vegetable exports from Russia, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, vegetable exports to Azerbaijan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Kazakhstan (X tons), threefold. Mongolia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Azerbaijan stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (X% per year) and Mongolia (X% per year).

In value terms, Azerbaijan ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for vegetables exports from Russia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Azerbaijan stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (X% per year) and Kazakhstan (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average vegetable export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by X%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2022, the amount of vegetables imported into Russia shrank significantly to X tons, reducing by X% compared with 2021. In general, imports showed a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, vegetable imports dropped significantly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Egypt (X tons), China (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) were the main suppliers of vegetable imports to Russia, together comprising X% of total imports. Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Israel, the Netherlands, Poland and Lithuania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X%.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
