Chemical Contraceptive Preparations Market Size in the Russian Federation

The Russian chemical contraceptive preparations market expanded slightly to $X in 2021, picking up by 2.1% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chemical contraceptive preparations exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 309% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Ukraine (X tons), Kazakhstan (X kg) and Belarus (X kg) were the main destinations of chemical contraceptive preparations exports from Russia, with a combined 82% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Armenia, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Moldova and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tajikistan (with a CAGR of +85.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Ukraine ($X) remains the key foreign market for chemical contraceptive preparations based on hormones or spermicides exports from Russia, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Turkmenistan, with a 5.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Ukraine totaled +41.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+3.2% per year) and Turkmenistan (+32.3% per year).

In 2021, the average chemical contraceptive preparations export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 155% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+28.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Russian Federation

In 2021, approx. X tons of chemical contraceptive preparations based on hormones or spermicides were imported into Russia; surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 9.1% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chemical contraceptive preparations imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Germany (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of chemical contraceptive preparations imports to Russia, with a combined 97% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +3.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Hungary ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest chemical contraceptive preparations suppliers to Russia, together accounting for 98% of total imports.

Hungary, with a CAGR of -1.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
