Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X units) was the main destination for leather apparel exports from Russia, accounting for a 25% share of total exports. Moreover, leather apparel exports to Belarus exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X units), threefold. Kuwait (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Belarus stood at +21.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+114.6% per year) and Kuwait (+615.2% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) remains the key foreign market for apparel of leather or of composition leather exports from Russia, comprising 35% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belarus totaled +26.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+81.8% per year) and Italy (-4.2% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average leather apparel export price amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a perceptible slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 57%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Lesotho ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, imports of apparel of leather or of composition leather into Russia soared to X units, growing by 48% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, faced a deep downturn. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country
Pakistan (X units), India (X units) and Turkey (X units) were the main suppliers of leather apparel imports to Russia, with a combined 84% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belarus, China, Italy and Kazakhstan, which together accounted for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +32.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, India ($X), Pakistan ($X) and Italy ($X) appeared to be the largest leather apparel suppliers to Russia, with a combined 76% share of total imports. Turkey, China, Belarus and Kazakhstan lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Among the main suppliers, Belarus, with a CAGR of +26.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
The average leather apparel import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+19.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
