Salt Market Size in Romania
The Romanian salt market fell to $X in 2021, dropping by -X% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, salt exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Hungary (X tonnes) was the main destination for salt exports from Romania, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, salt exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Slovakia (X tonnes), ninefold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (-X% per year) and Bulgaria (-X% per year).
In value terms, Hungary ($X) remains the key foreign market for salt exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Slovakia ($X), with an X% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Hungary stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (-X% per year) and Bulgaria (+X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average salt export price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X%. The export price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Romania
In 2021, purchases abroad of salt and pure sodium chloride decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports, however, posted a noticeable expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2020 to 2021, the growth imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, salt imports fell significantly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a moderate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Turkey (X tonnes), Ukraine (X tonnes) and Austria (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of salt imports to Romania, together comprising X% of total imports. Tunisia, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest salt suppliers to Romania were Austria ($X), Turkey ($X) and Greece ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports. Ukraine, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus and Tunisia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X terms of the main suppliers, Tunisia, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average salt import price amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of X% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per tonne), while the price for Tunisia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
