In 2022, shipments abroad of passenger cars was finally on the rise to reach X units after two years of decline. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, passenger car exports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by X% against 2020 indices. France (X units), Italy (X units) and Germany (X units) were the main destinations of passenger car exports from Romania, together comprising X% of total exports. In value terms, passenger car imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X units), Slovenia (X units) and the Czech Republic (X units) were the main suppliers of passenger car imports to Romania, with a combined X% share of total imports.
