For the fifth consecutive year, the Romanian ghee market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption posted measured growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Ghee consumption peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2014 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ghee exports reduced remarkably to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, recorded a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2014 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Greece (X tonnes) was the main destination for ghee exports from Romania, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, ghee exports to Greece exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Greece totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+X% per year) and Switzerland (+X% per year).

In value terms, Greece ($X) remains the key foreign market for ghee exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Switzerland ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Greece stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Switzerland (+X% per year) and the UK (+X% per year).

The average ghee export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, jumping by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of ghee were imported into Romania; jumping by X% compared with 2019 figures. Overall, imports saw moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, ghee imports totaled $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate pronounced growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per tonne), while the price for Slovakia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
