For the third consecutive year, the Romanian frozen vegetables market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption posted resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In 2020, frozen vegetables exports from Romania was estimated at X tonnes, with an increase of X% against the year before. In general, exports, however, saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2014 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, frozen vegetables exports shrank modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tonnes) was the main destination for frozen vegetables exports from Romania, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, frozen vegetables exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tonnes), ninefold. France (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-X% per year) and France (-X% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X) remains the key foreign market for frozen vegetables exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Italy stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and France (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average frozen vegetables export price amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. For the third year in a row, Romania recorded growth in supplies from abroad of frozen vegetables and mixtures of vegetables, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In value terms, frozen vegetables imports expanded significantly to $X in 2020. In general, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
