Corrugated Paper Market Size in Romania

The Romanian corrugated paper market reached $X in 2020, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% year-to-year. After two years of decline, shipments abroad of corrugated paper and paperboard increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, corrugated paper exports totaled $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Hungary (X tonnes) was the main destination for corrugated paper exports from Romania, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, corrugated paper exports to Hungary exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Moldova (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Slovakia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hungary stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+X% per year) and Slovakia (+X% per year).

In 2020, the average corrugated paper export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Italy ($X per tonne) and Hungary ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($X per tonne) and Slovakia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Romania

Corrugated paper imports into Romania shrank sharply to X tonnes in 2020, with a decrease of -X% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, corrugated paper imports fell rapidly to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Serbia (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Hungary (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of corrugated paper imports to Romania, together comprising X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Italy and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Poland (+X% per year), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2019 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the price for Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
