Citrus Fruit Market Size in Romania

The Romanian citrus fruit market stood at $X in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, saw a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2019, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, citrus fruit exports reduced dramatically to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, posted prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Poland (X tonnes) was the main destination for citrus fruit exports from Romania, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, citrus fruit exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Moldova (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Greece (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+X% per year) and Greece (-X% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for citrus fruit exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Moldova ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Hungary, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+X% per year) and Hungary (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average citrus fruit export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2020, the amount of citrus fruits imported into Romania dropped notably to X tonnes, falling by -X% against 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, citrus fruit imports shrank rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a modest increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Greece (X tonnes), Turkey (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of citrus fruit imports to Romania, with a combined X% share of total imports.
