Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carboxylic acid exports shrank sharply to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, enjoyed noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019, and then reduced notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Moldova (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and Greece (X tonnes) were the main destinations of carboxylic acid exports from Romania, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Bulgaria and Croatia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Croatia, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for carboxylic acid exports from Romania, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+X% per year) and Moldova (+X% per year).

The average carboxylic acid export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. After three years of growth, overseas purchases of carboxylic acid with alcohol, phenol, aldehyde or ketone functions decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, carboxylic acid imports reached $X in 2020.
