Serbia (X tons) was the main destination for bleached sulphate pulp exports from Romania, with a 96% share of total exports. Moreover, bleached sulphate pulp exports to Serbia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bulgaria (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Serbia stood at +27.2%.

In value terms, Serbia ($X) remains the key foreign market for bleached sulphate pulp exports from Romania, comprising 95% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Bulgaria ($X), with a 5% share of total exports.

The average bleached sulphate pulp export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 55% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Serbia stood at $X per ton.

Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +2.2% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 26%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, bleached sulphate pulp imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 32%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Spain (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of bleached sulphate pulp imports to Romania, with a combined 62% share of total imports.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
