After seven years of growth, purchases abroad of bananas and plantains decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2019. In general, imports, however, saw a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2018, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

In value terms, banana and plantain imports declined slightly to $X in 2019. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a notable increase.
