For the third consecutive year, the South Korean spun yarn market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2019. Overall, consumption showed a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

In 2019, overseas shipments of yarn spun from silk waste increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, spun yarn exports declined notably to $X in 2019. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a dramatic curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2019, exports remained at a lower figure.

Singapore (X tons) was the main destination for spun yarn exports from South Korea, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, spun yarn exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Indonesia (X kg), fivefold.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to Singapore stood at +X%.

In value terms, Singapore ($X) and Indonesia ($X) were the largest markets for spun yarn exported from South Korea worldwide.
