Uncoated Kraft Liner Market Size in Republic of Korea

After two years of growth, the South Korean uncoated kraft liner market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption saw a noticeable slump. Uncoated kraft liner exports from South Korea declined markedly to X tonnes in 2020, which is down by -X% compared with 2019 figures. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner exports declined rapidly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, recorded a measured expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tonnes), China (X tonnes) and Bangladesh (X tonnes) were the main destinations of uncoated kraft liner exports from South Korea, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the United Arab Emirates (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for uncoated kraft liner exports from South Korea, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (+X% per year) and Bangladesh (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average uncoated kraft liner export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, which is down by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, the amount of uncoated kraft liner imported into South Korea fell dramatically to X tonnes, with a decrease of -X% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports dropped notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, the U.S. (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of uncoated kraft liner to South Korea, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, uncoated kraft liner imports from the U.S. exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (X tonnes), twofold. Russia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from South Africa ($X per tonne) and Sweden ($X per tonne), while the price for Poland ($X per tonne) and Russia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
