Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2008; afterwards, it flattened through to 2020.

Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) were the main destinations of exports of washing and cleaning preparations; surface-active, whether or not containing soap (excluding those of heading no. X), put up for retail sales from South Korea, together comprising X% of total exports. Hong Kong SAR lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Hong Kong SAR, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for washing and cleaning preparations; surface-active, whether or not containing soap (excluding those of heading no. X), put up for retail sale exported from South Korea were Japan ($X), China ($X) and the U.S. ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, the U.S. saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
