These countries were followed by Mexico, the U.S., Poland, Qatar, the Czech Republic, Myanmar, Japan, Brazil, Viet Nam and Canada, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Viet Nam, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for battery exported from South Korea were Mexico ($X), the U.S. ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Canada, the Czech Republic, Poland, China, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Japan, Qatar and Brazil, which together accounted for a further X Czech Republic recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average battery export price stood at $X per unit in 2020, declining by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, supplies from abroad of primary cells and primary batteries decreased by -X% to X units for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a tangible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, battery imports dropped to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, showed perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2020, China (X units) constituted the largest battery supplier to South Korea, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, battery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), threefold. The U.S. (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).
