Photographic Film Market Size in Republic of Korea

After seven years of growth, the South Korean photographic film market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

X square meters of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed were exported from South Korea; surging by X% against the year before. Overall, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at X square meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, photographic film exports fell slightly to $X in 2020. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at $X in 2019, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X square meters), Japan (X square meters) and Thailand (X square meters) were the main destinations of photographic film exports from South Korea, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by China, India, Malaysia, Germany, Hong Kong SAR, Viet Nam and Singapore, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Viet Nam, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for photographic film exported from South Korea were China ($X), Hong Kong SAR ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Japan, Viet Nam, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X Nam saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average photographic film export price stood at $X per square meter in 2020, falling by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Photographic Film Imports

Imports into Republic of Korea

After four years of growth, overseas purchases of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed decreased by -X% to X square meters in 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a perceptible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X square meters in 2019, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, photographic film imports shrank to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

China (X square meters), Malaysia (X square meters) and Japan (X square meters) were the main suppliers of photographic film imports to South Korea, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest photographic film suppliers to South Korea were Japan ($X), China ($X) and Malaysia ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.

China recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average photographic film import price stood at $X per square meter in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per square meter in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per square meter), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
