Exports from Republic of Korea
In 2023, shipments abroad of electronic chips was finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports saw a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by X%. The exports peaked at X units in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, electronic chip exports contracted slightly to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports posted a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2022, and then reduced in the following year.
Exports by Country
China (X units) was the main destination for electronic chip exports from South Korea, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, electronic chip exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X units), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Vietnam (X units), with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from South Korea, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to China amounted to X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (X% per year) and Vietnam (X% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average electronic chip export price stood at $X per unit in 2023, reducing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Republic of Korea
In 2023, the amount of electronic chips imported into South Korea expanded remarkably to X units, growing by X% on the previous year. In general, imports continue to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, electronic chip imports stood at $X in 2023. Overall, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), China (X units) and Singapore (X units) were the main suppliers of electronic chip imports to South Korea, together accounting for X% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest electronic chip suppliers to South Korea, with a combined X% share of total imports.
