Carbonate Market Size in Republic of Korea

After four years of growth, the South Korean carbonate market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption saw a resilient expansion. The U.S. (X tonnes), India (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) were the main destinations of carbonate exports from South Korea, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Japan, Malaysia, Turkey, Indonesia, Germany, Australia, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Saudi Arabia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Brazil, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), India ($X) and Japan ($X) were the largest markets for carbonate exported from South Korea worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Spain, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Germany, Australia, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average carbonate export price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure in 2020 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices to Malaysia ($X per tonne) and the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per tonne) and Spain ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
