Bentonite Market Size in Republic of Korea

In 2019, the South Korean bentonite market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2011 to 2019, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2019, overseas shipments of bentonite increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports showed a noticeable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. South Korea exports peaked in 2019 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, bentonite exports shrank to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. South Korea exports peaked at $X in 2018, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2019, India (X tonnes), distantly followed by the U.S. (X tonnes), Turkey (X tonnes), Italy (X tonnes) and China (X tonnes) represented the major exporters of bentonite, together comprising X% of total exports. The following exporters - Slovakia (X tonnes), Azerbaijan (X tonnes), the Czech Republic (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Greece (X tonnes) - together made up X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2019, the biggest increases were in Greece, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($X), Turkey ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2019, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Turkey saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the bentonite export price in South Korea amounted to $X per tonne, falling by -X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a modest increase from 2007 to 2019: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last twelve years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2019 figures, bentonite export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, export prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2019, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while Greece ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Bentonite Imports

Imports into Republic of Korea

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of bentonite decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2019. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. South Korea imports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2019, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, bentonite imports dropped significantly to $X in 2019. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. South Korea imports peaked at $X in 2018, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X tonnes), Canada (X tonnes), Indonesia (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes), Malaysia (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes), Russia (X tonnes), Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), Thailand (X tonnes), the UK (X tonnes), Japan (X tonnes) and France (X tonnes) represented roughly X% of total imports of bentonite in 2019. Italy (X tonnes) held a little share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Thailand, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bentonite importing markets into South Korea were Germany ($X), Canada ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Japan, Thailand, France, the UK, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Russia, Malaysia and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
