Australia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 56% of total exports in 2021. New Zealand (X tons) took a 9.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by South Africa (9.3%). The following exporters - Spain (X tons), Romania (X tons) and Germany (X tons) - together made up 3.7% of total exports.

Australia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of greasy wool. At the same time, New Zealand (+3.0%) and South Africa (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, New Zealand emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +3.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Spain (-4.1%), Romania (-6.3%) and Germany (-25.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Australia (+3.8 p.p.), New Zealand (+2.8 p.p.) and South Africa (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Germany saw its share reduced by -4.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the largest greasy wool supplier from Puerto Rico, comprising 73% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with an 11% share of global exports. It was followed by New Zealand, with a 7.7% share.

In Australia, greasy wool exports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (+1.8% per year) and New Zealand (+1.5% per year).

India (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 19% share of total imports. By contrast, Uruguay (-1.3%), Italy (-4.6%) and Turkey (-6.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the UK (+3.1 p.p.) and China (+2.8 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
