Women Swimwear Exports

Exports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) was the main exporter of women’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles), mixing up 26% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Bangladesh (X units), France (X units), Tunisia (X units), Spain (X units) and Turkey (X units), together committing a 34% share of total exports. Vietnam (X units), Indonesia (X units), the UK (X units), Poland (X units), the Philippines (X units), Italy (X units) and Thailand (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, the Philippines (+39.4%), Bangladesh (+26.3%), Thailand (+25.5%), France (+21.4%), Vietnam (+20.5%), Turkey (+14.8%), Indonesia (+14.2%), Poland (+12.8%), Spain (+12.6%) and the UK (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +39.4% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-6.0%) and Tunisia (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+15 p.p.), Bangladesh (+7.7 p.p.), France (+5.1 p.p.), Spain (+2.7 p.p.), Turkey (+2.5 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.3 p.p.), the Philippines (+2.1 p.p.) and Thailand (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the global exports from 2012-2021, the share of Italy (-4 p.p.) and Tunisia (-16.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 32% of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Spain, Tunisia, the UK, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Poland, Turkey, Thailand and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 42%.

Among the main exporting countries, the Philippines, with a CAGR of +34.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the United States (X units), distantly followed by France (X units) and Spain (X units) represented the largest importers of women’s swimwear (excluding of knitted or crocheted textiles), together generating 43% of total imports. The following importers - the UK (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units), Italy (X units), Poland (X units), South Korea (X units), Australia (X units), Greece (X units), Portugal (X units) and Canada (X units) - together made up 28% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to women swimwear imports into the United States stood at +8.7%. At the same time, the Netherlands (+107.3%), South Korea (+9.0%), Poland (+8.9%), Portugal (+8.3%) and Germany (+5.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +107.3% from 2012-2021. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Spain (-1.4%), Canada (-1.6%), the UK (-5.8%), Australia (-8.0%), Italy (-8.1%) and Greece (-10.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The United States (+11 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+3.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Spain, Australia, the UK, Italy and Greece saw its share reduced by -2.4%, -3.2%, -3.7%, -4.7% and -4.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
